How to use AEO

The AEO tool tests your website to see if AI crawlers can extract texts from every page, and checks if your brand or URL is cited in AI responses.

Step 1: Set it

  1. Enter your business/brand name.
  2. Enter your sitemap URL and indicate if this is a sitemap index file by ticking the box beside "This URL is a sitemap index". If your sitemap is not a sitemap index, do not check that box
  3. Select your location. If you are an international brand, you do not select anything; you can provide your main country, but ensure you check "Multi market /location not primary". For national, regional, or local businesses, select these options:
    1. Country (this is important for national or regional businesses).
    2. City or region (only fill this in if your business is focused on a city or region instead of a country – e.g., plumbing services). If you serve several cities, select the major one first.
  4. Click on the "Run Analysis" button

Step 2: Understand the results

The first page provides an overview of your website and results. Click on each URL to see more depth.

Each URL should provide you with details on Extraction and Citation.

Extraction is about AI crawlers taking text from your website and attributing it to you, and citation is when they cite you for relevant queries.

For extraction, you get a breakdown of the analysis and suggestions to fix your page:

Citation focuses on core queries based on data. You see whether you are cited or not (first), then a list of brands/URLs cited below the citation scorecard.
